Maahir by Lattafa: A Closer Look at This Floral-Oriental Fragrance
Launched in 2019 by Lattafa, the renowned Emirati house based in Dubai, Maahir is a 100-ml unisex oriental floral eau de parfum, listed under barcode 6291107456744. Its fragrance profile opens with red berries, peach, and bergamot, unfolds into a heart of jasmine, peony, and red lily, and settles on sandalwood, vanilla flower, and musk. This is the founding fragrance of the Maahir line featuring the sculpted horse, the one that preceded the other variations. Black Edition, Legacy, and Honor. A powdery oriental fragrance for evening wear, available in its authentic version at Parfumerie de Dubai.
The team's founder
Before the silver and black variations, there was this golden horse from 2019, and its bold choice: to open an oriental fragrance with the sweetness of an orchard. The red berries provide the sweet-tart flavor, the fishing its velvety texture, almost tactile, and the bergamot that touch of freshness that keeps the fruit basket from turning into jam. A charming starter, more European than Middle Eastern in appearance.
The heart flutters within the bouquet: jasmine sunny and slightly heady, peony fresh and dewy, and this red lily a rarer note, one that lends the floral accord an almost dramatic intensity—that of evening blooms. It is this heart note that defines the fragrance’s true personality: opulent without being heavy, feminine on paper but supported by a structure that is anything but.
For the story depicts the Promised East: sandalwood creamy and milky, vanilla bean powdery, more floral, and less pastry-like than the pod, and a musk An enveloping scent that blends seamlessly into the skin. Testers describe a warm, powdery vanilla-sandalwood trail, perfect for fall and winter and for evenings out. With this unique signature highlighted by the community: the same bottle takes on a fruity-musky note on a woman’s skin and a smoky, woody, amber note on a man’s skin. A chameleon fragrance in the truest sense of the word.
The stable then grew around him, with each coat color having its own distinct character: the minty freshness of the silver horse Maahir Legacy for the day and the warmth, the sun-kissed curves of the golden horse Maahir Honor for special occasions. The original, meanwhile, retains its place as the evening choice: the first in the line remains the most enveloping of the three.

Bottle design
This is where the horse's head was born: a hood gilded and carved, mane blowing in the wind, set against a body of clear glass with twisted facets which reveals the champagne-colored liquid inside. The bottle plays on the contrast between crystal and gold, whereas Legacy would later opt for an all-chrome design.
Visit gilded Arabic calligraphy takes up the entire front panel, floating above the name “MAAHIR” in spaced-out capital letters. The black case, embossed with calligraphic patterns and featuring an arch that reveals the horse like a museum display case, completes one of the brand’s most meticulously designed packages in this price range.

Performance & sensations
On this point, the community's feedback is unanimous: Maahir is a powerhouse. Testers regularly report Stays on the skin for 8 hours or more, with a bold projection in the first few hours—just two sprays are enough to make an impression—before settling into a powdery, sandalwood-vanilla aura that lingers throughout the evening. At this price point, it offers one of the best value-for-money ratios in the oriental fragrance category.
Its natural habitat is the evening and the cold season : Fall and winter bring out the sandalwood and vanilla notes, whereas the summer heat would make them overpowering. Use two sprays for an evening out, and three for an outdoor event. And keep in mind its chameleon-like quality, as noted by testers: it’s fruitier and muskier on women’s skin, and smokier and woodier on men’s skin. The same bottle can scent a couple without the two scents blending together.
Maahir by Lattafa FAQ
Does Maahir feel the same way about a man as he does about a woman?
No, and that’s its most fascinating characteristic. Community testers consistently report that on women’s skin, the fragrance leans toward sweet fruit and musk; on men’s skin, toward smoky, woody, and powdery amber notes. Skin chemistry—pH and body heat—selects which facets to amplify. The result: a truly unisex fragrance, not a compromise, where each person reveals their own version of the same scent.
What is the difference between Maahir, Maahir Legacy, and Maahir Black Edition?
Three fragrances, three styles. The original from 2019—a golden horse on clear glass—is the powdery floral oriental described here: red berries, white floral bouquet, and vanilla-scented sandalwood, ideal for evening wear. Legacy, the silver-hued 2023 edition, takes the opposite approach: icy mint, citrus, and oak moss for daytime and warm weather. Black Edition, the black thoroughbred from 2020, delves into the darkness: pepper, leather, and smoky woods. From the sweetest to the darkest: Original, Legacy, Black.
What is vanilla flower in perfumery?
It is the vanilla orchid—the flower that precedes the pod—and its scent profile is very different from that of the pod: while the pod evokes pastries, rum, and leather, the flower offers a light, floral, powdery, almost sunny vanilla. In Maahir, this choice changes everything: the base note remains vanilla-scented without ever becoming dessert-like; it dusts the skin rather than sweetening it. It is this note that gives the scent its retro, powder-compact elegance.
Is Maahir a daytime or evening fragrance?
First and foremost, it’s an evening fragrance, and the community’s feedback is unanimous on this point: its powdery sandalwood-vanilla notes truly come into their own in the cooler months of fall and winter, when body heat allows them to shine without the sun overpowering them. It’s still wearable on cool days, over a coat or sweater, where it offers a cozy, cocooning scent. In the middle of the day during summer, however, opt for something fresher and save it for air-conditioned nights.
Is red lily a common note?
No, and that’s one of the charms of this pyramid. The lily is already a fairly rare note in modern perfumery—heady and sensual, often considered too overpowering; its red variant evokes an even more intense version, spicy and almost fruity. Between the sun-kissed jasmine and the fresh peony, it takes on the role of the dramatic soloist: it is this note that gives the heart of Maahir that special-occasion flair that a simple rose would not have dared to provide.
