Private Purple by Assaf: an uncomplicated, vanilla-scented oriental fragrance
Launched in 2024 by Assaf, the Saudi niche fragrance house ranked first in its country on Beautyworld’s rankings, Private Purple is a unisex oriental vanilla eau de parfum, listed under barcode 6287042401611. Its fragrance profile opens with cardamom, grapefruit, and mandarin; unfolds with notes of ozone, orange blossom, and rose geranium; and settles on patchouli, vanilla, amber, and musk. An airy oriental fragrance, housed in one of the most spectacular bottles in the Assaf catalog: a mauve openwork dome inspired by mashrabiya screens. Available as an authentic product at Parfumerie de Dubai.
Openwork Intimacy
Private: The word suggests intimacy, and the pyramid maintains it in its own way, by letting air flow through. The opening intersects with a cardamom green and camphor-scented, the great fresh spice of the East, with a duo grapefruit and mandarin which sparkles without harsh acidity. Right from the start, the fragrance establishes its paradox: it’s an oriental that begins like a window opened in the early morning.
The heart takes the idea a step further with its hints of ozone, that blend of fresh air and the atmosphere after the rain—an extremely rare quality in the vanilla category. The orange blossom brings its white light to it, the rose geranium Its slightly minty, rosy-green scent: a heart that breathes, where so many oriental fragrances feel stifled. Like a patio behind a trellis: sheltered, yet swept by breezes.
Then the background gently closes the shutters: patchouli earthy, vanilla warm, amber enveloping and musk Soft notes make up the promised oriental accord—creamy and velvety—which gives the fragrance its official classification as a vanilla scent. The revelation comes at the very end: what the fragrance hinted at through its transparency, it finally whispers against the skin.
At Assaf's, Private Purple thus serves as the perfect counterpoint to the bright sunshine of’Arrogate Girl : The morning's basket of citrus fruits is echoed by the evening's mauve hour. And for those who love color, it joins our selection of Dubai perfumes in purple bottles, where the color mauve always hints at an oriental fragrance brimming with mystery.

Bottle design
It is one of the most architecturally striking bottles in the Assaf catalog: on a cylinder of purple frosted glass, the shoulder is adorned with a openwork dome with a geometric grid pattern—a veritable miniature mashrabiya—topped by a cover carved with the same motif. Light passes through the latticework and casts shadows on the glass: the object changes its appearance depending on the time of day, just like a facade.
The reference is crystal clear: in Gulf architecture, the mashrabiya is precisely the art of preserving privacy while allowing air and light to pass through. Private Purple therefore bears its name engraved on its own body: “PRIVATE PURPLE” and “ASSAF” are inscribed in silver relief on the frosted glass, beneath the lacework of its mauve mashrabiya.

How to Wear It
Its composition hints at its intended use: the base notes of patchouli, vanilla, amber, and musk—with four generous fixatives—are designed to last for hours on end, while the ozonic heart note keeps the overall scent from feeling heavy. The result: a vanilla fragrance that can be worn earlier and longer than most in its category—starting in the late afternoon, without having to wait for nightfall. Two sprays are enough for an evening out; just one creates a cozy afternoon aura.
It’s also a true blend of styles: cardamom and geranium lean toward classic masculine aromatics, while orange blossom and vanilla lean toward feminine sweetness—and each person’s skin will bring out its own unique character. As for the best time of year to wear it, opt for fall and winter to fully appreciate the richness of the amber, and save it for mid-season on cool evenings: its fresh, airy heart note works wonders then.
Assaf's Private Purple FAQ
What does the name "Private Purple" mean?
Private purple, literally: the color of mystery and royalty, reserved for the inner circle. The bottle conveys the idea better than any speech: its openwork dome echoes the principle of the mashrabiya, that architectural screen that protects privacy while allowing air and light to circulate. The fragrance does exactly the same: a soft, vanilla-infused oriental scent interwoven with notes of ozone—a breath of confidence.
What are ozone notes doing in a vanilla-based oriental fragrance?
The effect of natural air conditioning. The ozone notes recreate the scent of the air after a thunderstorm—that almost mineral-like freshness we usually associate with sailors and aquatic scents. Weaving them into a vanilla-amber heart is a deliberate contrast: they lighten the sweetness, delay the heaviness, and give the fragrance that sense of space that classic oriental scents almost never offer. It’s this stroke of genius that defines the very personality of Private Purple.
Is Private Purple more masculine or feminine?
It strikes a balance with true elegance. Cardamom, rose geranium, and patchouli belong to the vocabulary of great aromatic men’s fragrances; orange blossom, vanilla, and musk to that of sweet, feminine scents. Depending on the chemistry of the skin, the balance will tilt slightly one way or the other, but the fragrance remains clear and comfortable for everyone: it is designed as a unisex fragrance, not a compromise in labeling.
What does the openwork bottle of Private Purple represent?
A miniature mashrabiya: this geometric screen that adorns the facades and windows of Gulf architecture, designed to allow one to see without being seen and to let the breeze through. The grid-patterned dome envelops the shoulder of the bottle, and the cap echoes the same motif: light casts shifting shadows across the frosted mauve glass. As much a collector’s item as it is a bottle, it encapsulates the fragrance: intimacy that lets the air flow through.
When should you wear Private Purple?
Its dual nature broadens the typical scope of vanilla fragrances. The amber base naturally makes it ideal for evenings and the colder months, but its ozonic heart makes it perfectly wearable from late afternoon through mid-season—a time when a classic oriental fragrance would feel too heavy. The right approach: one spritz for daytime, two as night falls, and let the cardamom do the talking.
